Step 1: Inspect for Pocket Lint and Debris
If you are stuck with a dead battery, look inside the port with a flashlight. Over months of sliding in and out of jeans and coats, dense fabric lint packs into the base of Lightning and USB-C ports. When you insert your charging lead, the plug cannot seat fully against the contact pins.
Never insert metal needles or paperclips, which cause electrical shorts across live VBUS pins. Instead, visit our shops for free microscopic inspection and lint extraction.
Step 2: Isolate the Cable and Wall Charger
Faulty charging cables with internal wire breaks or frayed strain relief collars often cause intermittent connection. Test your phone with a known-working certified cable and dedicated wall plug. If using wireless Qi charging works while wired charging fails, the charging port assembly itself requires attention.
